Bitcoin Price Holds 50-Week Trend Despite $6.3B Binance Hack

Key Takeaways

Bitcoin Closes Above 50-Week Average for 7th Straight Week

Bitcoin just absorbed one of crypto’s largest exchange hacks without breaking a technical level traders have spent months watching.

BTC secured a seventh consecutive weekly close above its 50-week moving average, keeping its broader market structure intact after Binance disclosed roughly $6.3 billion of unauthorized hot-wallet withdrawals.

Binance has said it will absorb the losses through its SAFU fund and corporate resources, with about $3 billion of affected assets frozen onchain.

Bitcoin’s Technical Structure Survives the Shock

Bitcoin has reclaimed the 50-week moving average and continues to hold well above its longer-term 200-week trend line.

The resilience matters because major exchange failures have historically produced sharp confidence shocks across crypto.

Bitcoin is also around day 916 of its current halving cycle, putting it beyond the point at which previous cycles had already established their major bottoms.

Glassnode sees room for further volatility without invalidating the setup.

“BTC is retesting the True Market Mean,” the analytics firm said on Oct. 30, adding that bitcoin could decline to the short-term holder cost basis near $75,800 and still maintain a constructive continuation setup.

Lacie Zhang, Research Lead at Bitget Wallet, said the distinction between Binance and bitcoin itself is important.

“The Binance incident is a major confidence shock to centralized crypto infrastructure, but not necessarily to bitcoin itself,” Zhang said. “For bitcoin, holding $76,000-$77,000 and reclaiming $80,000 on sustained spot demand would signal stabilization.”

Sellers May Have Already Done Much of the Work

Positioning offers another explanation for the resilience.

Basis traders and macro-oriented investors who built exposure into the October 2025 market highs have reportedly cut their ETF and futures positions by more than half.

Longer-term holders, meanwhile, have largely stayed put.

That leaves bitcoin in an unusual position. U.S. equities remain close to record territory, while BTC would need to climb roughly 53% to recover its own all-time high.

In other words, much of the speculative excess appears to have already been removed from crypto while other risk assets remain considerably closer to peak valuations.

$75.8K Becomes the Level That Matters

The fundamental backdrop is also keeping bitcoin’s scarcity argument alive.

Persistent U.S. fiscal deficits and elevated borrowing costs continue to strengthen the long-term debate around monetary debasement and hard assets.

Sentiment, however, remains subdued. The familiar “blockchain, not bitcoin” narrative has returned, a pattern that has previously appeared around major market lows.

None of that guarantees an immediate rally.

But surviving a $6.3 billion Binance hack while preserving the 50-week trend is a notable stress test. For traders, $75,800 now becomes the sharper line in the sand. As long as bitcoin holds above that broader cost basis, this looks less like a broken market and more like one absorbing another major shock.
